If you search Amazon for „Mario Poslon“, you’ll find guides: money, finance, your first home. What you won’t find there are my romance novels. Those appear under the name M. O. Polson – and there’s a reason.
A practical guide and a sensual love story speak to completely different readers. Someone looking for a book on building wealth doesn’t want an 18+ story popping up among the results – and vice versa. Amazon learns with every book who an author is and whom to show their titles to. A clearly separate name helps keep both worlds neatly apart.
There’s something personal too: under a second name I write more freely. M. O. Polson gets to try things the guide author Mario Poslon would never write.
It’s not a secret, though – you’re reading about it right here. It’s simply order: the right book for the right reader, in the right place.
Do you prefer reading under an author’s real name, or doesn’t it matter who’s on the cover? I’m curious what you think.
